Solid effort

2018-01-15 - Swiftys Capitals

Capitals come away with the victory with a solid complete game.

In a weekend rematch against the Lions, the Caps welcomed them to Grant Harvey Centre Sunday evening. This game was a physical contest from the get go. The Caps pressed early with solid puck movement sending the Lions to the box. Despite not being able to convert on the power play the Capitals set up well in the offensive zone.

About midway through the first Riley Spinney delivered a bone crunching hit to the Lions captain letting the Lions know that on this night the Caps would not be pushed around. Just a short time later Spinney found the back of the net battling in front. 1-0 Caps.

Using the wide ice surface to their advantage the Caps defencemen created some open space and Jakob Ashfield fired home his first of two on night. 2-0 Caps.

The physical play continued in the second, but the Caps with  quick speed avoided many checks. The Lions showed no quite however, and got one back early to cut the lead in half. Off an offensive zone less than a minute later draw Jackson Reader fed the puck back to Ashfield and he made no mistake, restoring the two goal lead. Just a couple minutes later Cole MacWilliam made it 4-1 with Chase Tims contributing a great feed on the play.

It was clear that this was not the Lions night as the Caps caught a break in the third, with what appeared to be a missed offside. The Caps pressed and Tyler Lynch buried one from in close. 5-1. MacWilliam added another from Tims before the Lions scored with less than a minute to play. Make the final 6-2 Caps.

The Caps are back in action Friday night against the York North Coyotes in Burtts Corner.
