Caps find a way

2018-01-13 - Swiftys Capitals

Capitals get the two points but the Lions battle all night long.

A Friday night tilt versus the Lions was on tap at Willie O'Ree. The Caps came out with some early pressure but the Lions countered with strong physical play. The Caps were not playing solid defensively giving the Lions some early chances. Jackson Reader broke the deadlock with a nice wrap around to give the Caps a 1-0 lead midway through the first.

With the offensive pressure the Caps were rewarded with a power play and capitalized as Chase Tims redirected a point shot from Jakob Ashfield. 2-0 Caps. The Lions fought back and were rewarded with some sloppy play in the defensive end, 2-1. With what appeared to be tired legs from the Caps, the Lions pressed their game and knotted the score at 2..

Looking to hit the reset button, Braden Galbraith was rewarded when his shot was redirected in off a Lions stick. 3-2 Caps. The Lions kept playing hard and tied the score again when the Andrew Bennett got caught on a pinch and the Lions skater came down the wall fast and blew a shot short side, 3-3.

As the third period wore on, it looked like this one would end in a tie. Short-handed, the Caps caught a break as Brenden MacIassac sped in alone and made no mistake. 4-3 Caps.

With the clock winding down, and the Lions net empty, Luke Urquhart found some room to get into the Lions zone, and put a shot in off the defenders stick. Make the final 5-3 Caps.

The Caps will look to step up their game in a rematch with the Lions on Sunday night at the Grant Harvey Centre. Game time 6:30 pm.
