Ice Dogs plow through the storm

2018-01-09 - Coastal Graphics Ice Dogs

Ice Dogs take this contest in a solid defensive effort.

Despite the weather outdoors the Ice Dogs met a blizzard inside and were ready to slow it down.  Applying early pressure Max Hay gave the Ice Dogs an early 1-0 off a good feed from Carter Sturgeon.  The offensive pressure kept coming from the Sturgeon, Hanny, and Hay line as they jammed the net and Hay put home his second before period one was done. 2-0 Ice Dogs. Strong defensive play kept the blizzards to the outside minimizing their chances.

In period two the blizzards managed to get under the skin of Ice Dogs and they were rewarded with a two man advantage. Poised and calm Liam Crouse was getting the job done between the pipes. The Ice Dogs had their own power play opportunity but found no twine.

Early in the third the Blizzards keeper came up big. As the third period unfolded Crouse controlled the rebounds and the Ice Dogs kept their game simple, not allowing the Blizzards many opportunities to strike. They pressed hard in the last five minutes but the Ice Dogs stuck to their game plan keeping the play outside and chipping the puck out of the defensive zone. On one of the few rushes for the Ice Dogs Max Hay was rewarded for some great hustle earning the natural hat trick with a great backhand. Credit Sam Legere with a well earned assist on the play. That would seal the victory for the Ice Dogs and earn Liam Crouse the shutout in a 3-0 victory.

The Ice Dogs pack their bags later this week and head to Miramichi for a weekend tournament. Should be a great tournament for the boys to keep displaying "gritty gets it done" hockey.
