Blizzards set to clinch berth to Atom A Championships

2017-03-15 - DQ Blizzards

Ty Lawrence rifles a backhand under the crossbar while Zach Ruston crashes the net.

The DQ Blizzards rebounded Monday from a tough loss to Woodstock on Sunday night and showed the North York Coyotes what three full periods of Blizzards hockey looks like.  The 6-1 victory over the Coyotes all but securing the Blizzards spot in the District 3 Atom A Finals Series against the Woodstock Slammers.   The Carleton Wicked Good have three games remianing (Blizzards + 2 vs Woodstock) and could still catch DQ.

Jayden Burtt-Munn opened the scoring for DQ in the first minute of the game and the Blizzards forechecked and played defensive shut-down hockey for the remainder of the period.

The game opened up in the second period on goals by Dylan Wood and Tynan Lawrence, giving Blizzards a cushion going into the third period.

The third period saw two goals from Tyler Macdonald and a rocket from the point from Cooper Stanley whose strong defensive play and first goal of the year earned him the coveted helmet for game's hardest worker.  Honorable mention for the helmet went to Riley Partington who was solid in goal while challenging the Coyotes during her long run as starting goalie while Sibbald soaks in the surf and sun.

Well done Blizzards, your coaches and parents are proud!   Now ... Bring on the Wicked Good and then ... the Slammers ...

Blizzards on 3 ....
