Blue Jackets shoot down the Flyers

2017-02-18 - Peewee Blue Jackets

Player-of-the-Game: #2 Adam Budd

Brady Lloy gets a hat-trick, Graydon Mullin-Hachey plays outstanding in net, while Adam Budd earns player of the game in a 5-2 win over the Flyers.

The Blue Jackets had a special guest in the dressing room for this tilt against the Flyers. Jack Flannagan, #28 of the PEI Pownal AAA hockey team stopped by the dressing room beforehand on his way back home from representing PEI in the Quebec International PeeWee Hockey Tournament. Jack took the dressing room floor just prior to the game and offered some inspiring words of advice and encouragment for the Blue Jackets as they prepared for their matchup.

And it was obvious from the drop of the puck, that the Blue Jackets were fired up and wanted to give Jack a true Blue Jacket effort and not let him down, as they took the game to the Flyers early with plenty of offfensive pressure. And that pressure pays off as #8 Griffin 'G Man' Sears roofs a goal top-shelf to put the Blue Jackets on the board first and into a lead they would not relinquish. #5 Brady 'Dr. Dangles' Lloy wrists his first goal of the game just 23 seconds later to put the Blue Jackets up by two, and that is how the 1st periods ends, 2-0 Blue Jackets.

The Flyers start to push back in the second period and finally get on the board scoring at the 8:38 min mark to pull within a goal. But the  Blue Jackets would have none of it, as they take back control of the play and the momentum of the game as #18 Alex 'Big' Brannen bangs home a rebound with just over five minutes remaining and #5 Brady Lloy scores his second of the game shortly thereafter, putting the Blue Jackets ahead 4-1. The Flyers scored late, but the Blue Jackets took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

The third periods saw some good action at both ends of the rink, as the Blue Jackets found themselves in some penalty trouble. But several huge saves by #31 Graydon Mullin-Hachey, and lots of strong defensive penalty-kill play enabled the Blue Jackets to hold-off the Flyers. While #5 Brady 'Dr. Dangles' Lloy puts this game away as he dangles his way through the Flyers d-men to rip home his third goal earning a hat-trick, and the Blue Jackets bring home a big win over the Flyers.

Final:  Flyers - 2  @  Blue Jackets - 5

Brady Lloy gets a hat-trick, Graydon Mullin-Hachey plays outstanding in net, but it was the outstanding shut-down defensive play by #2 Adam Budd, blocking shots, breaking up passes, and protecting his d-zone that earns him Player of the Game honours. Outstanding effort Adam.... congrats, well deserved!!

**No-one was able to interview Jack Flannagan after the game, but someone told the Blue Jackets they saw Jack leaving the rink with a huge smile on his face and the Blue Jackets players felt rest assured they had earned his respect.**
