Hotly contested victory over Bruins

2016-12-03 - Coast Tire Capitals

Jed Vienneau and Cameron Stewart celebrate

The Capitals started the game with no goalie, but managed to hold the Bruins to one goal before their tardy net minder could get on the ice.  Despite the disorganized start, the squad showed good discipline and kept the Bruins on their heels for most of the first period, tying the game with a goal from Alex Grant before the end of the period.

The Capitals got into penalty trouble, and played most of the second period short-handed, including an extended 5-on-3. But the defence was tight, and they not only held their ground, but took the lead with two goals from Brady Manderville (assisted by Mitchell MacDonald, Noah Clements and Jansen Watson).  The Bruins kept it close with a power-play goal near the end of the period, but the Caps opened their lead again with a marker from Brendan Murphy assisted by Jed Vienneau early in the third.  The Bruins weren't giving up and fought back to within one in the middle of the third, but a great pass from Cameron Stewart set Mitchell MacDonald up to put the game out of reach with six minutes remaining.
