This weekend the Wendy's FYHA Novice Major Senators found themselves up in Woodstock for the Novice tournament hosted by Woodstock Minor Hockey.Game 1 paired the Major Senators against one of the host Woodstock teams - the Woodstock WolfPack. Both teams looked very similar in ability - and jersey colour - and the fans present knew they were in for a challenging game to follow. The Sens wasted no time getting on the score board with #14 Grady opening the scoring with an assist from #6 Logan. Shortly thereafter, #10 Matt slammed one past the Woodstock goaltender, from an assist from #3 Justin. #17 Jacob then scored his first of the tournament, and then #9 Peyton S. Goaltender #1 Will was stellar in net, allowing only 1 goal, despite numerous Woodstock chances.
The second period saw Woodstock pick up a couple goals as the Sens took a short break from their usual hard work. #17 Jacob pulled them back in, with an assist from #14 Grady. This was followed by a goal from #3 Justin, then #13 Carter, and then another goal from #3 Justin, assisted by #17 Jacob. The second period closed out with the Senators leading 8-3.
The third period was all Senators with goaltender #1 will shutting down all offense that Woodstock could generate. #13 Carter added to the Senators lead, then followed by two goals from #3 Justin, giving the Senators a commanding 11-3 victory in their first game of the tournament. Player of the Game Award went to #3 Justin, Hustler Award went to #14 Grady - both awards chosen by the Woodstock coaching staff. The Hard Hat Award recipient, a recognition from the Senators coaching staff for hard work, went to #11 Xavier for his tireless fore-checking and strong work along the boards.
Great work Senators!
The first game was followed by a fun team meal at Pizza Delight in Woodstock and then preparation for Game 2 later that afternoon.
